Obtaining the Maple supplement using FTP

1. Log in as an anonymous FTP user to www.denison.edu (you will have to use the word "anonymous" for your login name and your internet address for password.)

2. Move to the correct subdirectory. If you are using a terminal type interface, you would get a prompt, ">", and issue the command:

cd pub/mathsci/stat

If you are using a Windows-based interface, you have to find this subdirectory.

3. Change the FTP transfer mode to binary. Again, if you are using a terminal interface, you simply respond with "binary" when you get the prompt.

4. Obtain the Maple V, Release 5 version of the statistics supplement and the help system through the commands:

> get stat.m

> get maple.hdb

5. If you are using Probability and Statistics Explorations with Maple, you can also obtain files sol1.ms, sol2.ms, ... that give solutions to the exercises of this book. The data that is used in this book is collected in the files stat.dat which is also available.

6. If you are using the Probability and Statistical Inference, Fifth Edition (Prentice Hall) by Hogg and Tanis, you can also obtain the data files associated with the problems in this book. These are the files HT1, HT3, ... HT10, for the data in chapters 1 through 10 of the book, respectively. These files may be obtained from the same FTP site. All these files: stat.dat, ht1, ht3, ... ht10 (note that there is no ht2) are text files and can be transferred in text mode or in binary mode.
