My interest in Iris DeMent began several years ago when I bought the CD by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. On that CD entitled, "Will the Circle be Unbroken," Iris sings "Mama's Opery. After hearing that song, I was truly moved at the beauty of her voice and meaning of the song. I discovered that the artist singing this song was Iris DeMent. I immediately began locating her CD's and purchasing them. I was not disappointed. Her voice and lyrics of nearly every song touched me like no other artist.

I was was delighted to discover Iris would be appearing at a nearby folk festival, Hockhocking folk festival located on the campus of Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. The festival was a two day event with Iris DeMent as the featured artist on Saturday evening. After arriving in the early afternoon, and enjoying other folk artist and banjo and guitar contest, I eagerly awaited the performance of Iris. She climbed the small porch of a log cabin by herself and with only her guitar and piano. She delighted the audience with her songs, most of which were from her "The Way I Should" album. She needed no backup musicians to accompany her, for her voice mesmerized everyone listening. Additionally, her facial expressions as she sang the songs added a deeper feeling to each word.

This web site is intended to gather in one location all the informaton concerning Iris DeMent and her music. I hope you enjoy your visit to this site. Thank you.
