WELCOME TO MY HOME PAGE!
Since what matters most to me and to Denison is teaching, let me introduce myself by inviting you to look at some typical syllabi from some of my past courses. But keep in mind that I change my courses every time I teach them. So the next time I teach the courses below, the syllabi will be different.
Like all good colleges and universities, Denison expects its faculty to engage in scholarly and/or creative activities outside the classroom. (Actually I suspect that for most if not all of us at Denison, research is a personal passion anyway.) Faculty research by dedicated teachers helps to ensure that students are exposed to teachers who are constantly developing both in and out of the classroom. In my opinion, such teachers can expose their classes to the questions and practices most currently energizing their fields. Notice that I use the word "questions" and not "answers." That is because I much prefer that my students learn how to raise and deal with questions, rather than to get in the habit of accepting someone else's answers, even the latest ones.
Outside of my teaching and scholarship, I enjoy taking pictures, like the one at the top of this page. Click on the picture if you would like to get a glimpse of my family and me.
