HAUSAUFGABEN AND ATTENDANCE (33%) Your assignment each day is to come to class prepared to discuss the text assigned for that day. Missing any day for any reason other than for a Denison function means a loss of one percentage point from your grade. Failure to hand in the written assignment for the day or to contribute to the discussion of the text means a loss of points. If you miss a day of class and hand in the written assignment you can receive 1/2 credit for that day. If you hand in the written assignment late you receive an automatic 6 (out of possible 10) for the day.

PRÜFUNGEN (45%) There are three tests in the course of the semester that will focus on identifying characters in books and the interpretation of quotations in the texts. These scenes may have been discussed in class or not.

BIBLIOGRAPHY (5%) You will hand in a bibliography on the author of your choice in the sixth week of class. You must use the MLA style and must include at least one primary work, one article, one book about the author, one book about the general context in which the author wrote, and one translation. Fill in the rest with whatever else you can find about the author. If more than three entries are improperly written or you hand in the bibliography late, incomplete, or minus the proper number of entries, you will receive an automatic 3% for the exercise. You may rewrite the entries and resubmit the bibliography for 4%. With a proper bibilography, parenthetical notes may be used in your research papers.

ARBEIT (17%) To complete the course you must hand in a 7-10 page paper on the work or works of the author that is the focus of your bibliography. You will be graded on content and grammar. Lack of a bibliogrpahy and/or footnotes in your paper is an automatic 'F' on the grammar portion of the paper.
