WRITTEN REACTIONS AND ATTENDANCE (39%): Each class day is worth 1% of your grade. For most readings and films you will be asked to hand in written reactions. Questions on which you base your responses will be handed out before the reading or reviewing assignment is due. Hand your written reactions in at the beginning of class and use them as a basis for discussion. If you miss class you can hand in the written reaction for half credit. If you miss class and fail to hand in a reaction you lose 1%. If you are in class but your written reaction is late you will receive a grade 2 points below the lowest score of the person who was in class and handed the assignment in on time.
PRÜFUNGEN (40%): There will be two tests, each with equal parts devoted to film and literature. The section on literature is a take-home examination that you work on individually using whatever printed resources you wish (please type this portion of the exam). The film portion of the test will be done during a regular class hour. Dictionaries are permitted.
FINAL PAPER (21%): A research paper on German film and/or literature is due during finals week (we can determine due dates together). You will receive more detailed guidelines for the paper on the Monday after spring break, but expect to write between 8-11 pages in correct German and provide a bibliography 10 or more sources.
