I wondered if perhaps Gadamer was thinking of Heidegger when he said this.

English Translation: "There are, I think, two human experiences of this word that we all share, even those of us to whom the gift of faith is not granted: the word of forgivenss and the word of reconciliation...We all know what a huge task forgiveness is for the person who forgives. It is really necessary to accept the erson who has asked for forgiveness in such a way that he or she is already forgiven."
